    • Set up "signup.com" registration system.

    • Answer questions.
    • Nudge members to fill slots and meet their commitments.

    • Update Google Group to include new members each year for emails

    • Update each year the Team Directory email groups have the right people

    • When special events have graphical flyers, post them to the website

    • Tech Team requests notice several weeks in advance. It is also a big help if flyers are sent with text+background separately, and with a square minimal-text version for instagram. Highly detailed information, such as an exact schedule of performers in an event, can go onto the Google Calendar but individual web pages will only have main information which is not subject to fine-tuning and updates.

    • Ensure that all web pages adhere to accessibility standards, and display well on mobile devices

Team Coordinators:

  • Graphic Design & Signage (2023 Carly Schonberg)

    • We need designs for around 3-6 events per year. Each should be prepared for print (8.5" x 11"), instagram (square with much less text), and finally also provided as separate text + background for the website.

    • Team members should be conversant with Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator, solid understanding of web and social media conventions is preferable.

  • Major Events/Festivals (2022 Jane Martin-Lavaud, Luz LeStrange, Brooke Dramer, Dave Emmett)

    • Please refer to the garden calendar and confirm availability before signing up for this assignment.

    • Prepare and pick up (or organize pickup of) GrowNYC order

    • organize additional plant purchases, if needed (sometimes we get plants at Lapide's, a garden center where Eman shops and gets a discount)

    • organize volunteers to pot up plants from garden plots and keep them healthy until the sale; organize and brief volunteers for the sale (table setup, selling plants, break-down)

    • coordinate with other garden members involved in the Spring Festival, esp. promotion/marketing

    • ensure that we have what we need on the days of the sale (plant lists, price lists, plastic bags, change, etc.)

    • be responsible for handing over plant sale receipts to Treasurer; communicate with Steering Committee and garden membership as a whole on all issues re plant sale.

  • Publicity & Social Media (2023 Rebecca Barr, Emily Brown, Carly Schonberg)

    • Post updates to Facebook and/or Twitter (but Website and Instagram are managed by Tech Team, below)

    • Works cooperatively with the Garden coordinators for Major Events (Spring and Fall Festival and Plant Sale), Community Outreach, Movie Night, Haunted Walk and Tech team to publicize 6/15 Green’s events

    • Place announcements in as many local event listings as possible and, if possible, getting local reporters to write a small article about the garden and event(s).

    • Prior experience and a list of media contacts are extremely helpful.

    • Build, develop, and maintain up-to-date media contacts, including print media, online media, radio/tv/local access cable, social media, community members who have expressed an interest in our events (neighbors, local community organizations, community boards, BIDs, local politicians, etc.)

    • Write concise press releases

    • Meet submission deadlines for listings with media contacts - at least 2-3 weeks before event, longer for optimal results

Location Teams:

  • Community Plots and Spaces (2023 NEEDED)

      • Develop and maintain the several Community Plots adjacent to the 6th-Avenue fence.

      • We regularly amend the soil, weed, trim and water during dry periods.

      • The willow poses challenges because it is both shady and dry.

    • 15th St (2023 NEEDED)

      • Develop and maintain the several Community Plots adjacent to the 15th Street fence.

      • Regularly amend the soil, weed, trim and water during dry periods.

      • Take care not to injure or prune the hops growing near the NW water spigot. (W3 on 615green.org/map) Coordinate with the "hops people."

  • Children's Garden & Activities (2022 Ani Minasyan, Amy Bucciferro, Sandrine Gigon)

    • This assignment includes planning Children's Activities

    • Work that must be done on group work project day to get this area cleaned and ready come early spring

    • Remove bagged concrete and stones alongside the nursery on digging garden side.

    • Remove all debris and toys.

    • Digging garden should have pots, pails, trowels, rakes & shovels only. No Toys! It is not a playground!

    • Make paths in front of the seating areas with bricks.

    • Install new lattices to designate boundaries.

    • Remove the hedge.

    • Plant native plants along the edges to define the area.

  • Compost (2023 Mary Ellen Muzio)

    • HOW MANY TEAM MEMBERS?

    • At the Start of Season, the Compost Coordinator assesses condition of compost bin and, if needed, plans a Group Project Day activity to repair or rebuild them.

    • Throughout the Season, the Compost Coordinator solicits sawdust, leaves and other "browns" from businesses and individuals in the South Slope and nearby communities.

    • Arrange to have such "browns" picked up and distributed on Group Project Day.

    • The Compost Stewards (who need to be trained) turn the compost between the three bins, add browns when needed and regularly check on the condition of the compost bins.

    • Open Question: Shouldn't there be an email alias for people to contact the compost group? Especially since non-members are often interested to participate?

  • Group Vegetable Garden (2022 Jonathan Blumberg & Marian Marinovich)

  • Inner Back Garden / Native Plants (2022 Suie Jen & Kelly Gordon)

  • Solar Arbor/Pond (2023 Tracy Fitz)

  • Tools & Structures (2022 Peter Brightbill)

    • START OF SEASON:

      • Inspects all tools and discards those which are broken or which are too rusted to salvage and sharpen.

      • Compiles an inventory of tools and cleans and sharpens those (shovels, shears, cutting tools) with a sharpening stone.

      • Organizes Tool Lockers so that tools are accessible and are sheltered from the weather.

    • MID-SEASON GROUP PROJECT DAY:

      • Empties the Red Shed and, under guidance of a senior member, discards materials that are either broken, water damaged or are otherwise damaged and materials which have not been used for several seasons.

    • POSSIBLE LATER GROUP PROJECT DAY PROJECT:

      • Building new shelving to go along the entire rear wall of the Red Shed and Improving the lighting within it.

    • CONTINUALLY THROUGHOUT SEASON:

      • Rounding up tools left in garden plots and returning them to the Tool Lockers or Red Shed.

Solo Responsibilities:

  • Arborist & Garden Tree Care (2023 Nin Wagoner)

    • Trim trees. This role requires training.

  • BANG Representative (2023 Mary Huhn)

    • Liaison with Brooklyn Association of Neighborhood Gardens

  • Carpentry (2023 Bjarne Jonasson, Chad Rimer)

    • Fix wood structures around the property as needed.

  • Community Outreach/Special Events (2023 Elena Tate and Paul Wasserman)

    • Pick up supplies at seasonal Green Thumb giveaways.

    • Reaches out to community businesses for donations and support for 6/15 Green events, including the Harvest & Spring Festivals, bake sales and fundraisers, plant sales, Haunted Walk, etc.

    • Ideally should also reach out to the local community to help with volunteer opportunities within the garden (which we will create).

    • Liaison with other community gardens, schools, organizations, etc. to foster collaborative opportunities.

    • Movie Night

      • Choose movies and dates

      • Arrange for viewing equipment and electricity
      • Create advertisements (or connect with Graphic Design team for that)

      • Help publicize (or connect with Publicity and Social Media for that)

    • Day of the Dead

      • Coordinate with Mixteca and/or local children organizations

      • Late Season (September) Plan Haunted Walk for Saturday near Halloween (usually the same day as the Park Slope Children's Halloween Walk).

      • Come up with route, props & sets and recruit young actors and create budget for props and set.

      • In the past, expenditures for props were about $100 and we had a donation bucket and usually brought anywhere from $200-250.

  • Fundraising & Grant Writing (2023 Stephanie Daniels)

    • Should have knowledge of staging events and/or writing grants. Should be involved with major fundraising events at 6/15 Green, including plant sales and the Spring & Harvest Festivals.

  • Group Project Day Coordinators (2022 Sarah Hubert, Kelly Gordon, NEED A THIRD)

    • Identify tasks for each of the monthly Group Project Days

    • Record who has participated, since each member family needs to spend at least 4 hours per year at one

  • Mediator (NEEDED)

    • Intevenes at the request of the Steering Committee when conflicts arise betwen Garden members. Must be trained in dispute resolution and/or mediation.

  • Port-a-Potty (2023 Maria Lazarini)

    • Schedule Pickup and Dropoff (we have been using "Call-a-Head")

    • Question: Is there maintenance required during the year?

  • Sanitation & Snow Removal (2023 Kyle Ancowitz, Valerie DiClerico)

    • NOTE: let's call this "Grounds", and have it include Sanitation and Snow Removal?

    • THIS ASSIGNMENT GETS A TEAM

    • Responsible for putting out on the curb all garbage, recycling, and garden debris that we ourselves do not compost.

    • Biweekly time windows, 2 weeks on and (usually) a 4 week rest in between.

    • Commit to clear snow on sidewalks.

    • Salt as needed and clear a path to compost bin.

    • This is a 2 person job but most likely there will also be additional volunteers.

    • Also clear litter from sidewalks November - April.

  • School Tours/Guide (2022 Sonja Neill Turner)

    • Answer questions for schools/daycares wishing to visit, including apprising them of our rules and expectations

    • Open the garden for such visitors, or make arrangements for someone else to open for them.

  • Senior Center (2022 Maria Lazarini)

    • Question: Does this position still exist?

  • Sidewalk and Street Trees (2022 Rich Garr)

    • No plants or fences or obstructions of any kind may be in the tree pits

    • Keep the sidewalk clear of vegetation outgrowth

    • Remove litter and weeds from tree pits surrounding the garden.
