Community Growing

Community Growing Coordinators:

Some parts of the garden are stewarded by individual households, but other parts are tended by our membership at large. The Community Growing Coordinators manage that process, to ensure that everyone who wants "hands in the dirt" can have that experience.

These coordinators' responsibilities include:

Reach out to people with the "Community Growing" Community Assignment, to ensure everyone has a place to put their hands into the soil.

  • Make sure each Growing Area has a coordinator.

  • Make sure each coordinator is willing and able to mentor team members.
  • Gather information about the amount of help each coordinator needs for their team.

Community Growing Areas:

  • 15th St Fence (Location 61 on Map)

    • Develop and maintain the areas adjacent to the 15th Street fence.

    • This area must not have vegetables growing in it.
    • Regularly amend the soil, weed, trim and water during dry periods.

    • Take care not to injure or prune the hops growing near the NW water spigot. (W3 on 615green.org/map) Coordinate with the "hops people."

  • 6th Ave Fence (Locations 58/57 on Map)

    • Develop and maintain the areas adjacent to the 6th Avenue fence.

    • This area must not have vegetables growing in it.

    • Regularly amend the soil, weed, trim and water during dry periods.

    • The willow poses challenges because it is both shady and dry.

  • Inner Garden (Locations 17/55 on Map)

    • This area usually contains taller shrubs, as a visual separation between the Underwillow area and the rest of the garden.

  • Native Garden (Locations 25/36/40 on Map)

  • Vegetable Garden (Location 13 on Map)

  • Herb Garden (Location 12 on Map)

  • Lilac and Berry Gardens (Locations 3/6 on Map)

    • (2023 HELP NEEDED)

    • These two areas are geographically close, so for now they're considered one.
